Blocked defrost drain
Food bits and ice block the small drain at the back. Melt water then overflows inside the fridge.
Water under the crisper drawers or on the kitchen floor nearly always has a simple cause. We find where it comes from and fix it, so the floor and the fridge stay dry.
Tell us what it’s doing and we’ll usually know the likely cause before we arrive.
Food bits and ice block the small drain at the back. Melt water then overflows inside the fridge.
On frost-free fridges a failed drain heater lets the drain freeze, and water backs up into the fridge.
The tray above the compressor collects defrost water. A crack sends it straight onto the floor.
Split water pipes or a worn inlet valve on fridges with a water or ice dispenser.
Warm humid air gets in, turns to frost and then melts into puddles.
If the fridge tilts forward, defrost water runs out the front instead of into the drain.
Find where the water starts: inside under the drawers points to the defrost drain; under the fridge points to the drip tray or a water line. Tell us which when you book.

The defrost drain at the back wall is blocked or frozen. We clear it and fix the cause, such as a failed drain heater, so it doesn’t come back.
The water itself isn’t, but water near sockets is. Wipe it up, keep it away from the plug, and book a check.
You can try pushing warm water through the drain hole with a syringe. If it freezes again within days, the drain heater has failed.
